Family caregiver opportunities in Pennsylvania

Some Pennsylvania programs may allow a family member to be paid for providing care. Eligibility depends on the program and individual circumstances — this is educational information only.

In some cases, Pennsylvania Medicaid programs — including participant-directed services under Community HealthChoices — may allow an eligible adult child, spouse, or other family member to serve as a paid caregiver for an eligible older adult or person with a disability.

Whether payment is possible depends on the specific program, the care recipient's assessed needs, approved hours, and program rules about who can be hired. Not every family relationship qualifies, and not every older adult is eligible for services.

What determines eligibility

  • The care recipient's program enrollment and assessed needs
  • Program rules on which family members may be hired
  • Approved service hours and the participant's choices
  • Employer of record requirements and any required training
